I never knew I needed this in my life. I was perfectly happy with making headings with normal markers. Until I came across brush lettering. It was at a bookstore where I saw a pack of brush pens that came with an instruction booklet about how to start with brush lettering. I fell instantly in love with the art.

I’ve been using these pens for years now, some I’ve bought 5 years ago… and they still write like brand new.
If you are into journalling, writing, brush lettering or line art, you will LOVE these. If you are new to brush lettering, these pens are a great introduction.
Today, I’m sharing my addiction with the Pentel Fude Brush Sign Pen, and what makes them my favourite brush pens.
Ease of Use
What I like the most with these pens is their flexible tip. It has just enough give for maximum control. You can make fine lines with ease and a bit of pressure gives beautiful thick lines. They are perfect for those who are new to brush lettering. The problem with some brush pens is they tend to be too long and have too much give. You need a lot of practice to gain precision control over the brush. Pentel Fude Brush Pens are easy to pick up and start writing with, especially if you are just starting out with brush lettering.
Ink Quality
The water-based ink’s quality is stellar and lasts forever. What I’ve found with other brush pens is that the deeper hues tend to over saturate your paper and leave blotchy marks. Pentel has managed to keep the consistency over all of their colors, giving a smooth and even finish to your marks. Oh, did I mention they last forever? I’ve been buying these pens since 2015… and I’ve never had a pen run out of ink on me yet! And I write a LOT. I’m sure with even heavier use, or if you leave the cap off, they will dry out. So far, these babies have been going strong for me!

All the Colors
Pentel Fude Brush Sign pens have a variety of colors, from deep primaries to jewel tones. I especially love the jewel tones, they all go well together and you can use them as a highlighter.
Price
They are admittedly, more expensive than your regular marker. On the other hand, they last forever, so you’ll be buying it less frequently. Honestly, I’ve lost a couple of these brush pens before running out of ink. I’m talking years here! These pens are definitely make a case for quality over price. You can buy these individually in most stationery stores in Hong Kong for around HKD $14 and a pack of 12 is just $158. They are pricier on Amazon and Jetpens, so do avail of discounts if you choose the online route.
Conclusion
These pens are fun to use, easy to pick-up, bring color to your notes and make a beautiful variety of marks. While they may be a bit pricey, you can buy them by piece. I do leave you with a warning; once you buy one, I know you’ll want to buy another color… and then another color… and then another…. Welcome to my life!
